What To Watch Wednesday #1

Maybe it's just me, but I'm constantly on the lookout for new films or shows to watch. So I thought I'd test out a new segment on this blog called 'What To Watch Wednesday', in the hope that I can share with you some of the films and shows I love - and you actually might have a go at watching them! Do let me know if this is a series you'd be interested in, as I'd love to continue doing it.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING (123 MINS)

I'm sure pretty much everyone has seen The Theory of Everything by now, but I thought I'd bring it up again just in case you haven't been convinced to see it yet. The Theory of Everything follows the story of Stephen Hawking, and his relationship with his first wife Jane. It's a candid portrayal of their own struggles, Stephen's fight with motor neuron disease and his groundbreaking work. You'll cry, laugh and smile, and most of all be inspired by the story of a man who wasn't mean to live past 21, and defied all expectations. Plus Eddie Redmayne's acting is phenomenal (he more than deserved that oscar).

MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO (86 MINS)

If you've never seen My Neighbour Totoro before, you need to watch it now!  From Studio Ghibli (the creators of Spirited Away), My Neighbour Totoro is a stunning animation with the animated parts of the film displayed over beautiful watercolour backgrounds. The story itself is pretty simple, two sisters move to the countryside and end up befriending tree spirits but it is bound to put a smile on your face and make you wish you had a neighbour Totoro of your own.

ONCE UPON A TIME (44 MINS - PER EP)

If you love fairytales then Once Upon A Time is a must watch. It tells the story of Emma, a normal girl who one day finds the son she gave up years ago knocking on her door and telling her of a mysterious town called Storybrooke where fairy tale characters do exist - the catch is they don't know it. After being put under a spell by the evil queen, which transferred them to the real world and made them forget who they really are, the characters have no clue of their fairytale past or how to achieve their own happy ending. This one is definitely worth a watch - just make sure you watch a few episodes to get into it (I was actually put off by the first episode!).

THE BUTTERFLY CHILD (13 MINS)

I saw this a couple of days ago, it left the biggest impression on me, and I've been thinking about it constantly ever since. This short documentary follows the life of Jonathan Pitre, a 14-year old who suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa, one of the most painful conditions known to man. It's hard to watch (and is at points quite graphic) but Jonathan's optimism, and his everyday struggle definitely inspires and makes you realise all the things that you take for granted and forget to be grateful for. You can watch it here.

PADDINGTON (95 MINS)

If you're looking to watch a funny, feel-good movie then look no further! Paddington tells the story of a young immigrant bear who arrives from Peru, alone and lonely at Paddington station. When the Brown family see him, they decide to take him in until they can help him find a new home. Before they know it, Paddington becomes a loved member of the family but the chaos he causes raises the hard question of whether a bear can really be part of a human family at all. Paddington is heart-warming, and suitable for all ages - even my dad loved it!

Thank you for reading lovelies! Let me know in the comment section below what films/tv programs you've been loving recently!

  4. I caught a couple of episodes of Once Upon a Time and like it however my hubby dearest will pretend to snore next to me. *insert eye roll* LOL! Have you tried watching Grimm? It's similar to Once Upon a Time as in it's all about fairy tales too but in a darker side of it. If you like Once Upon a Time then you should try watching Grimm...besides, the lead actor is kinda hot. ;-)

    1. Haha yeah I can't really imagine many guys liking Once Upon A Time because it can be super cheesy! I haven't actually heard of that show before, but I will definitely try it out because I'm obsessed with fairytales!

  7. I loved The Theory of Everything! In case you're interested, I have a review of it up on the blog :)
I only watched the first two seasons of OUAT, but then I stopped because I felt like it was getting too overloaded with characters... I mean, even Elsa and Anna are on the show now.
I would definitely check out The Butterfly Child documentary.

You should definitely keep this series of posts! :)

    1. Yeah I had similar feelings about Once Upon A Time, because it got a bit too complicated. I'm really loving the current season though even if my favourite will always be the first!
