The Big Perfume Post

It's that time of the year again when we're all writing our Christmas wish lists in our heads, and thinking about what we want underneath our Christmas trees. Perfumes are definitely one of those things that I always get at Christmas (it just seems a bit too indulgent any other time of the year...).

The first time I bought perfume was quite a few years ago. For some reason I had it in my mind that I would buy Chanel No.5, regardless of price, scent or anything. I blame the amazing Moulin Rouge style No.5 advert with Nicole Kidman. Anyway as it turned out, when I reached the perfume section of Debenhams, Chanel No.5 scared me away with their price, and instead I fell in love with the adorable Daisy scent and bottle.

With that in mind, I thought I'd share with you some perfume inspiration by trying my hardest to describe the scents of perfumes (I am a bit hopeless at it) that I've tested out myself including those above and quite a few samples I've got from magazines as well! (finally my magazine addiction pays off).

JO MALONE WOOD SAGE & SEA SALT COLOGNE £40.00 - 30ML/£82.00 - 100ML

Jo Malone perfumes are perfect if you want more of a unique scent, but they are very expensive... This perfume bottle is actually my sister's (cannot put my jealousy into words) and costed £40.00 which is a lot considering that it's only a 30ml bottle! Wood Sage and Sea Salt is one of Jo Malone's newest fragrances and has a lovely fresh combination of scents, perfect if you favour something a bit more sophisticated.

MARC JACOBS EAU SO FRESH £56.00 - 75ML

Now on to my favourite perfume, Daisy, which I will try not to sound too biased over. Daisy has a lovely, floral and fruity scent. It's perfect if you like quite an obviously girly scent but don't want anything too overpowering. The bottle is also super cute too. If you haven't tried out a tester of Daisy before, I'd highly recommend it!

MISS DIOR EAU DE TOILETTE £55.00 - 50ML

This is pretty high on my perfume wish list (another one from my sister's collection) and has this gorgeous floral scent with hints of rose and citrus notes. It reminds me a lot of Daisy, but has more of a elegant and subtle edge. I also love how simple and elegant the bottle is - anyone else have an unhealthy obsession with bows?

Samples I've Tried

VIKTOR AND ROLF FLOWERBOMB £68.00 - 50ML/£94.00 - 100ML

Flowerbomb describes this perfume in a nutshell, this strong floral scent hits you straight away. It's super sweet, and possibly a bit too sweet if you're not a fan of overpowering scents. But if you love sweet scents, this perfume really just makes you happy when you smell it.

B.BALENCIAGA PARIS EAU DE PARFUM £48.00 - 30ML/£67.00 50ML

B.Balenciaga has a very interesting mixture of scents, I can't really put my finger on exactly what it smells like. According to its description it has hints of edamame, which add to it's slightly quirky scent. For me, this doesn't really appeal to me, but if you like woody scents or something with a bit of intrigue, then this is a good one to try out.

SI EAU DE PARFUM GIORGIO ARMANI £46.00 - 30ML/£89.00 - 100ML

This scent is pretty, with hints of vanilla and fruit. I honestly was a little underwhelmed by this one, I'm not sure what it is, but it's perfectly pleasant and elegant, just didn't think 'Wow' when I first smelled it.

LA VIE EST BELLE L'EAU DE PARFUM £44.00 - 30ML/£70.00 - 75ML

La Vie Est Belle is one of those perfumes that really hits you with its strong scent. It's super sweet and quite similar to Flowerbomb, just not as overpowering. I really love this perfume, and love the hints of vanilla mixed with fruity scents.

GHOST ECLIPSE £25.00 - 30ML/£46.50 - 75ML

Ghost is a super citrusy perfume, and has a lovely super strong smell that hits you straight away. If you're a fan of citrus scents, then this is definitely one you should try out!

CHLOE EAU DE PARFUM £45.00 - 30ML/£75.00 - 75ML

Chloe has a lovely subtle scent of rose and other floral scents. It smells very chic and elegant, and is perfect if you want something a bit more understated.

REVEAL CALVIN KLEIN 30ML - £38.00/100ML - £70.00

Reveal is a mysterious scent with whole mixture of scents. I like that it has a mysterious spicy edge, with hints of sea salt and more woody scents. It is a little on the musky side for me however!

ANGEL THIERRY MUGLER 50ML - £63.50

This is definitely a marmite perfume, you will either love it or hate it. It's super sweet but super spicy at the same time, and definitely has a very unique smell.

Thanks for reading lovelies! What's your favourite perfume? Anyone else obsessed with Daisy? Tell me in the comment section below!

  4. I have always wanted to try Jo Malone's perfume, Ruth Crilly is always gushing about it but omg, it's soooo pricey! Lucky you to be able to nick some of your sister's.

    1. Yeah, she's really lucky to have one. The price tag just puts me off so much! Jo Malone perfumes do smell gorgeous though.

  5. I did a review on Angel awhile back... I'm afraid it wasn't quite my taste! You're right, it's definitely a love or hate type of thing.

  6. I've never really been into perfumes, but I really want to find a nice one. I've heard of the Jo Malone and Marc Jacobs ones being good, but I never bother to commit to standing and finding out which scent I like! The Marc Jacobs bottles are always so pretty though, it could easily sway me. ^.^ ♥
