Food | Dominique Ansel Bakery

Hello Lovelies! If you follow me on Insta, you'll know I love my cafes, especially ones with cute cakes, coffee or biscuits. So when I saw that Dominique Ansel had turned their desserts pink for Valentine's I decided I would finally go and see what all the hype was about. Now for those of you who don't know Dominique Ansel, it's famous for being the creator of the Cronut (crossiant and doughnut hybrid) and it's novelty sweet creations like the frozen s'more that everyone raves about. Basically it's the home of everything pretty and sweet, and expensive because jeez the prices...

One of the best things about Dominique Ansel in my very lazy opinion is that it's super close to Victoria station, and right by Victoria Coach station so it's super easy to get to. The only thing I will say is that getting a seat here seems pretty impossible if you're not on your own because when I went it was packed, and I couldn't even get one of the pretty white marble tables #firstworldproblems. When you arrive at Dominique Ansel, you'll most likely be greeted by a long queue. Personally I think the system is a little flawed and stressful because you can't really work out who's getting take out and who's staying, so it's all just a bit hectic really.

But that aside Dominque Ansel is packed with all the cute and beautiful desserts. I got the Paris Je t'aime pastry case because look at that monocle, moustache and kiss mark - what a sassy dessert! To go with it because apparently I spend half my life lulling myself into a sugar coma, I got their signature hot chocolate. This all came to about £12.00 as I recall which is crazily expensive, but it is what it is. The Paris je t'aime is filled with earl grey, lemon curd and blackberry and honestly the result is a little saccharine for my taste. The hot chocolate was nice but honestly a little bit bitter for me, and I ended up wishing I just got a coffee. I also ended up spilling it all over the table because apparently you can't take me anywhere...

So what did I think of Dominique Ansel Bakery? Well honestly from this experience alone I think it's a little overhyped. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful cafe and all the desserts are just oh so pretty... But for the price I was expecting a little bit more than just a pretty looking dessert. That said I'm sure I'll return in the future to try one of their signature cronuts or frozen s'mores because I've only heard good things about those. Here's to next time...

Thank you for reading lovelies and have a great week! If you want me I'll probably be wrapped under 10 blankets because so cold...

  1. I saw this pastry on your InstaStories and thought it was the cutest thing ever. Shame that it wasn't up to your expectation but at least you tried it and know better next time. xx
