Lifestyle | How To Survive The Colder Months

Hello Lovelies!

Autumn means a lot of excitement over fluffy jumpers, crunchy leaves and cosy nights in but for a lot of us it can be a really hard time. Don't get me wrong I LOVE AUTUMN but the days are shorter, colder and it can be hard to keep those energy levels up. So I've written a post with a whole range of tips on how I personally survive those colder months.

The first thing, which I've neglected taking any photos of is a SAD lamp. I must be the billionth blogger to rave about one of these but if you really struggle with seasonal affective disorder it's something to consider investing in.

They basically mimic sunlight so you can essentially extend your days once it's got dark to keep you awake and motivated. I've stolen my sister's a few times (this one) and I can vouch for how amazing it is for your energy levels. I actually used it for an essay all nighter and it was a life saver. You probably won't believe it but after staying up for hours I wasn't even tired.

I've mentioned before that I've been trying out Garnier's Honey Flower range, but oh my word I've fallen for their 3-in-1 nourishing balm. It can be used as a day and night moisturiser or applied thickly as a face mask (which I haven't tried yet). Because it's super thick, it can be applied in thin layers that really moisturise your skin. It's the first moisturiser in absolutely ages that has really worked for me so I definitely recommend it.

My current favourite lip balm is this oh so adorable fox one by wild and wolf.  What I will say though is it seems annoyingly difficult to find any of these online so you may have to check any gift shops to see if they have any!

When it's cold and miserable it's so important to keep yourself feeling lovely and pampered. The lovely people at So...? Fragrance sent me a range of fragrances to try and I'm loving switching up my fragrances to spice up the days a bit. My current favourite is their Dark Romance range* - very floral which I'm all about with scents.

Those who watched my Lush Christmas and Halloween haul will know I have lots of Lush bubble bars and bath bombs to use up for the rest of the year. Warm baths are just perfect for evening relaxation and I could not recommend them enough. I've really missed hot baths.

After not really reading at all in adulthood, I suddenly want ALL THE BOOKS. It's probably part of being a working gal, and trying to make the most of rush hour commuting but I'm suddenly reaching for anything from cheesy rom coms to psychological thrillers. Basically I'm book crazy and books are perfect for cold days inside.

A very new favourite, that I picked up and have been glued to all day is Ben Ambridge's Psy-Q. It's all about psychological experiments and fun puzzles that you can try out yourself. What I love about Psy-Q is that it's interactive and really wakes up your brain. Plus it's SO interesting if you're in to psychology like me.

If the weather is getting you down, you should get this cute little book in your life. Liz Climo creates adorable and heartwarming illustrations all about friendship that just melt my heart. Google her and you'll see what I mean. Trust me I'm so happy I found this book in a comic shop in Brighton last week. Get it in your life!

Another thing that I'm sure will be part of my Autumn survival kit are the teapigs feel good teas. What I love about this range is that there's one tea for every step of the day:

There's the Clean n Green detox tea* - a mix of green tea, lemongrass, ginger, coconut and dandelion leaves that helps you to detox and start your mornings well. As I've mentioned many times before I'm a massive believer in green tea so this gets a big thumbs up from me.

Next up in the day is the Up Beet Energy Tea* - a punchy blend of hibiscus, ginger, green tea and beetroot to give you a much needed afternoon boost. This one if my least favourite of the lot simply because I'm not a beetroot fan. But what I will say is that it is definitely punchy and does make you feel more alert.

The final and my favourite is the Snooze Sleepy Tea - a soothing mix of chamomile, apple and lavender to help you drift off easily to sleep. This is my favourite because I love the taste but also because it really works for me. It makes me feel so calm and relaxed which for an over-thinker is a real blessing.

Anyways that's all my little tips for surviving the colder months. Do let me know if you have any advice.

Love Vicky x

  5. I'm not much of a tea drinker but I like the other tips. When I think of fall I think of coffee and netflix binge watching under the covers :)

  6. I love Autumn! I actually have 4 daylight lamps in my room as I found that the yellow lamps were making me really tired. Then I also have a chandelier in the middle which has yellow lamps so I can which that on before going to bed. Kind of like the night mode on iPhone :D.

Tea is definitely essential for Autumn! I have a drawer full of different types of tea :)x
