Hello Lovelies! Years and years ago when I was in primary school I remember two of the boys in school coming over to me and my friends. One of them asked me, "are you gay?" to which I replied no, and they started chuckling and saying but "gay means loving men, so you like girls." Of course this was your standard 'banter' in which being gay was a throwaway insult. I don't think it was until years after that, that I really understood properly what being gay was. Being gay was just one of those things that people didn't talk about.
In my teens however I started to get really interested in gay rights. I've always been a romantic, and I just found it so bizarre that two people who loved each other couldn't be together. I'd research and research and I'd just be more shocked at the complete lack of gay rights and the horrible discrimination that goes on in the world. I talked about gay rights so much that most people were convinced I was gay myself. LGBT rights was honestly one of my biggest passions as a teen, I would not shut up about it.
Nowadays I am still as passionate and going to Pride is the perfect way for me to support those that I love and show how proud of them I am. The atmosphere at Pride is just one of sheer joy, love and acceptance. Me and my friends watched the parade and there were so many lovely little moments. My favourite was when this older man came in the parade who was dancing provocatively, and his husband came up to talk to us. He said that we should all live our lives like no one's watching, love and remember that we have so much ahead of us as young people.
There is so much I want to say about Pride, and honestly I'm not sure I can really find the words to do it justice. It's a reminder that the world can be so accepting, but also that there are so many that still struggle in this world to love who they want to love, or even to be who they are. So you can never get complacent. Even in the UK we have a long way to go, and voicing your opinion and sharing the love can go such a long way. Trust me.
Thanks for reading lovelies! Have a great week!
I really enjoyed reading this as it's not a subject that many bloggers talk about - great post! x
