Vicky Bakes | Queen Of Hearts Afternoon Tea

Hello Lovelies! Baking is something of a rarity on my blog, but in reality I bake all the time. In fact I bake almost every weekend (and I always have lots of leftovers, be jealous). So I thought I'd start a series of things I bake, using the most imaginative title I could think of: Vicky Bakes. This time around I'm taking inspiration from one of my favourite books/films, Alice in Wonderland for a slightly alternative Valentine's Day idea inspired by the Queen of Hearts (Red Queen). I've also done a little video too featuring my best friend Amy - scroll down to watch!

For the top layer I made two heart scones, and two little baby heart sandwiches. If I'm honest the recipe I used for these scones was a little disappointing, so I recommend using this one instead. They say it's better to have a heart cutter to make these scones, but I cut out hearts free hand and they seemed to turn out alright so anyone can try these! For the cupcakes I used this recipe from BBC Food, adding pieces of dried raspberry to the cupcake mix and adding red food colouring to the buttercream icing. But what really made these cupcakes special, were these lovely Miss Etoile Red Cupcakes & Toppings Set (£15.00)*. I love this set because the cupcake cases are so cute, and they have these adorable little cocktail stick decorations with two heart designs, and two messages 'Eat me' and 'Enjoy.'

Also for the afternoon tea, I had this amazing Mrs Moore's Vintage Store Red Queen Mug (£18.00)*. What I love about this mug is that it uses the traditional illustrations from Alice In Wonderland and has so many nice little touches like the quote on the back and the heart on the inside of the mug. And I have to say I'm in love with the rest of the collection too - in an ideal world I'd have a full set!

Do let me know if you have any special plans for Valentine's in the comment section below! And as anyone who reads my Sunday series The Single Girl Diaries will appreciate, I'll be alone on the day but may bake some heart scones again to celebrate! Also I want to say a big thank you to Amy for being a trooper and baking with me. She turned 20 this Saturday, so happy birthday to her!

Thank you for reading lovelies! Have an amazing rest of the week and do let me know if you'd like to see more baking posts/videos!
