Beauty | Five Mascaras

Hello Lovelies! For me mascara is definitely the part of my makeup routine that I couldn't live without so I thought I would share my thoughts on five of the mascaras I've tried recently (including the much hyped Roller Lash). I've included mascaras to suit any price range - from £2.00 to £19.50, so hopefully you all find this helpful.

MUA EXTREME CURL MASCARA (£2.00)

Let's start with the cheapest, MUA's Extreme Curl Mascara (£2.00). I bought this a while back on a total whim, with no expectations at all because can you really expect much from a £2 Mascara? The first time I used this I was actually really impressed by the quality as it gave a lovely light curl. However, after a few uses it became very spidery and uneven on my lashes, and never quite produced the same effect again. So all in all, this mascara is exactly what you'd expect for one that costs £2, but I'm not sure I can really complain considering how little I paid for it. On the plus side it has a good wand, but the formula really lets this down.

BOURJOIS PARIS VOLUME GLAMOUR MAX HOLIDAYS MASCARA (£5.99)

The Bourjois Paris Volume Glamour Max Holidays Mascara (£5.99) is a petite 6ml mascara with a thick wand. What this mascara does really well is giving you that dramatic eye look, and also the compact packaging makes this a perfect holiday mascara too. However, for some reason I find this mascara to be really inconsistent as some days it will give a lovely voluminous look but on other days it can feel very heavy on the lashes and clump a little - perhaps because of the thick brush? I wouldn't necessarily recommend this because I only found it ok, but it's worth trying out if you're curious.

SOAP AND GLORY THICK AND FAST HD MASCARA HIGH-DEFINITION COLLAGEN-COAT MASCARA (£10.50)

The name of this mascara is such a mouthful (wow). First impressions of this mascara is it works really well and gives my lashes a lot of length - I'm blessed with incredibly short lashes. It also has great staying power and lasts the whole day which is definitely a plus too. Wand wise, I didn't really like it so much as it didn't do the best job in separating my lashes and I found it surprisingly difficult to use. That said, this is one of the best mascaras I've used although I find it a little pricey for £10.50 as their are cheaper drugstore mascaras I've preferred.

MAX FACTOR FALSE LASH EFFECT MASCARA (£10.99)

The Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara has to be one of my all time favourites, as I've used it for years and have always been happy with it. I find that in a day look it can be a little heavy, so I prefer to use it for a night time look when I really want dramatic lashes. The only downside I've found with this mascara is that the formula can feel a little heavy on your lashes, and flake a little but otherwise I really love this and will keep repurchasing!

BENEFIT ROLLER LASH (£19.50)

You are probably sick and tired of hearing how amazing Roller Lash is, and I'm sorry but I really love this mascara too! What makes it great is that it has a plastic curved wand, with two brush sides, one longer and one shorter. The plastic wand really allows it to grip on to your eyelashes and give them a long lasting curl (from day to night). The formula is also great because it doesn't weigh down your lashes nor does it end up flaking. If you want a voluminous and dramatic eye look, this isn't for you but if you love a girly and pretty curl - then I would definitely recommend this as it achieves that look perfectly.

Thank you for reading lovelies! What's your current go-to mascara? Let me know in the comment section below!

  5. I actually haven't tried any of these mascaras.
I have two and I feel that is more than enough.
I love "They're Real Mascara" so I think I am really going to love "Roller Lash" if I try it.
It's nice to see the drugstore alternatives available too!

  6. Great post, Vicky and the mascara addict in me is jumping in excitement reading what to try and what to avoid. I'll have to say the first two mascara wands are just not for me, my lashes will clump together. So far I have found two mascaras that reminds me of Roller Lash, one is Maybelline Lash Sensational and another is from Mary Kay. I should do a review on both soon....if I can get off my lazy arse. LOL!

ps: I have short lashes too so completely understand the pain. (insert dull face emoji)

  10. I tend to have love-hate relationships with mascara. I'll love it at first, grow bored with it after a while, and then fall back in love with it again. While I don't have a top favorite, I do find myself always going back to Dior's mascaras whenever I'm in between picks. Their formula is just pretty damn great.

    1. Yeah I can be a bit like that too, I tend to try out quite a few mascaras so don't usually use one consistently but then come back to it. Although Roller Lash has really one me over. I should try a Dior mascara, never have!

  11. As much as I love the Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes at the moment, I'm desperate to purchase Benefit's Roller Lash... you may have just convinced me! xx
