Beauty | Vichy's Dermablend Range

Hello Lovelies! Today I'm back with another review and this time Vicky, is trying Vichy, a brand that looks a little too much like my name. Maybe it's sleep deprivation taking its toll, but I keep seeing my name on the packaging, and now I can't un-see it. That or I'm secretly egotistical... Anyone who has read my blog for a while will know that I don't use high-end beauty products often, mostly because of my student budget, so I was super excited when Vichy got in touch and sent me two of the new products from their Dermablend range to try. Now let's be real here, my skin is pretty awful at the moment. Think acne, dry patches and redness and you've got my skin in a nutshell. So more often than not foundations and me do not get along to say the very least. But Vichy claims to suit all skin types, young and old so I was eager to see if it could take on the challenge of my skin and win for a change. Game on.

Let's start with their Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation (30ml - £18.00)*. Now I'll admit when I read the description of this foundation, it reminded me of a slightly desperate dating profile that just seems a little too good to be true. Claiming to be suitable for all ages and skin types, as well as having a 16 hour flawless coverage, lightweight finish and 24 hr hydration, as well as SPF 35, Vichy seems to have it all. But when it met my skin it seemed to be a whole other story. Let's start with the good, this foundation has an amazing coverage and a little really does go a very long way, banishing blemishes, acne, redness, you name it to a faraway land. That said their lightest shade Porcelain is a little too dark for me #paleskinproblems, so ends up leaving me a tad too dark. But it does deliver on the lightweight front, as it definitely felt like I was wearing nothing on my skin.

Now on to the negatives. I will say right now that I don't think this is a good foundation if you have acne problems, because this gave me acne breakouts like there was no tomorrow. I actually wore it for an hour, and even after that I managed to breakout which is honestly a nightmare. It also seemed to dry out my skin quite a bit, and I found that it clung to dry patches even after I tried removing it, which again was a nightmare.

Now, let's move on to Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder (28g - £17.00)*, which you can think of as the Fluid Foundation's best friend. When used together with the foundation, it claims to create a smudge and water resistant coverage with a natural matte finish perfect for Summer in particular. The powder my skin had no problems with, as it created a translucent matte finish that I really liked and definitely helped to set the foundation in place.

All in all, whilst this didn't work for me, I think for the right skin type it could work wonders especially when it starts to get hotter and more humid. So if you don't have acne issues, or particularly dry skin I'd definitely give this a go, as from other bloggers I've heard great things. Just this time for me, it wasn't a match made in heaven and I'll be sticking to my holy grail foundation, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.

If you feel like giving either of these a go, they currently have 33% off on Feelunique.com so if you're tempted to try it out - there's no time like the present! Have a great day lovelies - and do let me know if you've tried anything from Vichy!

  1. Eek! I can't believe it broke you out that bad even though you only wore it for an hour?! But that's the problems with makeup and skincare, we never know what could trigger a reaction. :-(

  2. It's such a shame that the foundation broke you out. I think it's really important for everyone to realise that what works for one person may not necessarily work for the next; everyone's skin is different! For me, this foundation works wonders, but I have normal-combination skin. I've never tried the setting powder, so I'm intrigued about that!
