August Favourites

Hello Lovelies! How the hell has September crept up on us so fast? Seems like only yesterday it was the beginning of the holiday and suddenly now it's all come to an end, and the British weather has decided to give up on me... Although I'm happy to say hello to jumper weather and hot drinks and of course Christmas because I'm one of those people who is a bit too obsessed with it, I am really not a big fan of September. That said I am looking forward to a new uni year, where I start learning Korean alongside Japanese eek.. It's both daunting and exciting at the same time!

If you follow me on Instagram (@vvnightingale) you've probably seen a lot of photos of Homeware magazines. I've always been a really big fan of magazines, but I only ever used to actually read Fashion ones but this Summer I started reading Interior Design ones and I'm officially hooked. I picked up my first issue of LivingEtc this month and it is amazing. If you like Modern fun pieces then you will love it! If you love stunning interiors, give Elle Decoration a go because everything in the magazine is house goals. But if you're looking for a realistic Interior Design magazine, with lots of pieces that won't break the bank, I'd recommend Ideal Home! As you can tell I've bought way too many magazines this holiday... Another favourite this month, which I already did a whole post about here is Bill's. The food there is just so tasty and I really need to go back and get another one of those Fish Finger Sandwiches... Yum...

I must have mentioned the St. Ives Apricot Scrub about a million times on this blog, but seriously if you've never tried it you need to - it's amazing. My skin has been so horrible recently, so I decided to repurchase this and my skin has felt so much better after only a few days! For pretty much all of August I've been wearing Rimmel London's 60 Second Nails in Silver Bullet. It's a bit of an unusual nail colour for me as I really tend to shy away from metallics and go for pinks or pastels but it's a surprisingly versatile colour, and I loved how it looked with the outfit I wore in my first OOTD. My favourite Lipstick this month has been my Revlon Matte Lipstick in Smoked Peach which was actually the lip colour I used in my Audrey Hepburn Makeup Tutorial! I've really been a fan of these quite peachy shades recently as I feel like the warmth they have really suit my skin tone as I'm such a super pale girl. Plus the application is a dream, and it doesn't make my lips feel dry at all. My final beauty favourite is Soap and Glory's Archery, which is actually pictured above but it's already so worn down you can barely see it says Archery on it anymore! I love how easy it is to use, and the fact that you can shape your brows and define them without it looking too over the top which as a girl who naturally has barely there brows is a definite plus!

So I'm in danger of being stereotypically British, but who doesn't love the Great British Bake Off? It's finally got to the point where I remember people's names but when I started watching the show I came up with nicknames, like Ian is Awkward Dad and Mat is Awkward Dad's Son. I know they're not actually related but they remind me so much of each other (is that just me?). I'm currently rooting for Tamal (because he is the cutest), Ian and Nadiya. Who else is watching Bake Off?

I've had quite a few people recommend Bones to me so I decided to finally give it a chance. I'd actually seen the first episode a few years ago but it didn't really make much of an impression on me at all. But now I am obsessed with it which is proof that you should always watch the second episode of a show! The series follows forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel, and yes that is Zoey's sister!) and FBI agent Seeley Booth as they solve crimes together. With amazing plot lines, and ridiculous chemistry between Booth and Brennan, it is definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of crime drama.

If you're a keen HONY follower, you might already know about the Instagram @wolfgang2242 but if you don't already you should definitely be following it! The Instagram account is run by Steve, a passionate animal rescuer who lives with 9 dogs (Englebert, Eeyore, Phyllis, Loretta, Hercules, Madeline, Edna, Josh and Enoch) as well as a pig called Bikini, a rabbit and so on... Steve is one of the most inspiring people I have seen in a long time, and he shows just why animal rescue is so important. Plus, you end up falling in love with all his animals, Bikini is a bit of a legend and Englebert is just the sweetest!

Thank you for reading lovelies! Do let me know what you've been loving this month as I always love recommendations. Happy Friday!

  2. One of the best August post that I've read so far, I love how it's a collection of everything instead of a concentration of just one thing. My husband loves Bones and have been telling me that we should watch it (he used to before moving to Malaysia) but we barely have time to eat, sleep these days! Haha!

  4. This is such an amazing favourites post! Why did I not know about wolfgang2242?! Also, I'm definitely picking up that nail colour, it's gorgeous! How exciting that you're learning Korean alongside Japanese! I used to love J-Pop and K-Pop, so they're languages I know how to pronounce, but don't understand much of. So envious! x
