Review: Millie Marotta's Tropical Wonderland Colouring Book

Hello Lovelies! By now you've probably heard of the colouring book trend. It's been hailed as the new way to beat anxiety and to calm yourself down, and now is a bit of a staple in any book shop. For a long time I'd resisted buying one for myself, because I couldn't really justify it but after seeing how stressed and anxious my sister has been recently, I decided to pick one up for her as a little gift.

I should probably start this review by saying I'm a very anxious person. For years I used to have really bad panic attacks in almost every exam or stressful situation you could imagine. They were terrifying, but I can't tell you how good I feel now that I've conquered them. I'm still anxious, yes, but panic attacks have become a rarity for me which I never thought possible.

One of the things you will notice as soon as you open this book is the pictures are absolutely beautiful. Trust me it's hard to even choose the first one to colour in. It's easy to get lost in the magical world Millie has created, everything is just so wonderful and pretty.

But do colouring books really help to beat anxiety and destress? I would have to say yes. It's not like suddenly colouring in will defeat your anxiety but what makes them great is that they distract you from the stresses of everyday life. All of a sudden, your biggest and most troubling decision is what colour to use next or whether you'll actually successfully fill out a page. Me and my sister did the one above together, and it was surprisingly calming (even if I had to consult with my sister what colour to use next!).

If you're looking to get your hands on one of Millie Marotta's beautiful colouring books, she has two (I think!) currently being sold, Animal Kingdom and Tropical Wonderland. Both retail at £9.99 which is a great price considering how long this book will last you. And if you don't want to buy it alone, share it with a sister or friend like I did - you'd be surprised how something so simple can bring people together.

Thank you for reading lovelies! Have you given in to the colouring book trend yet?

I imagine it's a great way to de-stress and just take your mind off life for a while, and it's so lovely that you picked one up for your sister - she's lucky to have you! :) xxx

  7. I was thinking of getting one for myself but I'm absolutely horrid with anything that has to do with arts. But I know my husband's niece would be thrilled to get this and I might pick this up as a surprise gift for her.

  8. After buying the Calm book, which you might remember I did a post on, I've seen these EVERYWHERE! I keep putting myself off getting one because there's just so many out there, but this is so pretty! Though in all honesty, what really keeps me calm is actually drawing something from scratch. x
