Review: Tatler Limited Edition Birchbox

Hello Lovelies! I'm back with another Birchbox review. This month rather than one of their monthly (£10) boxes, I'll be giving you my verdict on their Limited Edition Tatler Box* (£25.00). First off I have to say that I LOVE the box design, it's so pretty and floral! Interestingly, this box is all about celebrating British brands, with the products inside coming from all over Britain from London to The Cotswolds. The products all seem to have quite a floral and organic vibe to them - so I really feel like the theme of the box works really well this week as opposed to some of the others where the products seemed really out of place. First impressions aside, I am a little skeptical - after all this box is £25.00, is it really worth it? Find out what I think down below:

DR JACKSON'S NATURAL PRODUCTS FACE OIL 03 (£30.00)

WHAT: NOURISH, SMOOTH AND IMPROVE SKIN TONE WITH THIS 100% NATURAL, ANTIOXIDANT-PACKED FACE OIL
HOW: MASSAGE A FEW DROPS INTO YOUR SKIN AFTER CLEANSING

This is definitely one of those products I would have never picked up myself. I have oily skin and frankly I don't feel cool enough to buy this - the packaging is so hipster it actually intimidates me! That said this was possibly one of my favourites of the box as I have never used facial oil before, and have found that it actually doesn't make my skin feel any oilier (so long as I don't accidentally put too much on). I haven't used this long enough to really know if it works, but it definitely leaves my skin feeling much more healthier after use. Plus you can get so many uses out of this as you only need a couple of drops each time.

LIZ EARLE BEAUTY CO CLEANSE & POLISH (FULL SIZE 100ML - £14.00)

WHAT: THIS AWARD-WINNING, TWO-STEP CLEANSING SYSTEM LEAVES SKIN NOURISHED AND GLOWING
HOW: MASSAGE CLEANSER INTO DRY SKIN THEN BUFF AWAY WITH THE DAMP MUSLIN CLOTH

I'm sure a lot of you have already heard of Liz Earle's hot cloth cleanser, as it's one of those massively hyped up products, so it was really intriguing to actually have a go at using it. It comes with a cloth in the box, and you use this to wipe off the cleanser once you've massaged it into your skin. The cleanser itself is a bit like moisturiser texture wise, and washes off makeup and grime really easily too which is a massive plus. I've been using this constantly for nearly a week now and I have to say this product may just be worth the hype. In this hot weather, when my face gets all horrible and sweaty, this cleanser really helps to make your face feel and look clean. Time will tell if this works in the long run, but on first impressions, I am definitely impressed.

AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES RENEWING ROSE BODY CREAM (£36.00 FULL SIZE)

WHAT: AN INDULGENT BLEND OF ROSE, SHEA BUTTER AND EVENING PRIMROSE FOR A LUXURIOUS MOISTURE SURGE
HOW: MASSAGE THOROUGHLY INTO CLEAN, DRY SKIN

Aromatherapy Associates is a brand I tried out a long time ago, and actually reviewed some of their samples in this post. This cream has a gorgeous rose scent, and instantly makes your skin feel so lovely and soft, it is just so good. A full size bottle of this would be 200ml, and this is only 40ml, so that gives you an idea of how much this is actually worth - still I'm sure this will last a pretty long time as you don't need too much of it as a little goes a long way. This isn't a brand I would buy from normally (because it is so damn expensive!) but I do love their products, so was super happy to see them in this birchbox.

BAMFORD GERANIUM HAND AND BODY WASH (£22.00)

WHAT: CLEANSE AND REFRESH WITH THIS PLANT-BASED BLEND OF SOOTHING ALOE VERA, LAVENDER AND PEPPERMINT OILS
HOW: APPLY ONE PUMP TO DRY HANDS AND LATHER UP

This is one of the smaller products - more like a hotel/travel size and it's a brand I've never heard of before. First impression is I love the quirky mix of geranium, lavender and peppermint but I feel like this scent is a bit love it or hate it. For my mum 'It smells like detergent' but for me I actually really love the combination. There's only one problem, I have a slight skin allergy to lavender, so I can't really use this too much. I did try it out briefly though, and loved how it lathered up from only a little bit. But like I say, I think this product is a little bit of a marmite one - you'll either love the scent or hate it.

Excuse the awful nail painting - I'm so bad at being patient with my nails!
CIATE LONDON PAINT POT (£9.00)

WHAT: SUPER-PIGMENTED, ULTRA-LONG LASTING AND A CINCH TO APPLY, THIS POLISH GUARANTEES FLAWLESS NAILS
HOW: START WITH A BASE COAT, PAINT ON YOUR PIGMENT, FOLLOW WITH GLOSSY TOP COAT AND ALLOW TO DRY

I'm not sure if it's just me but I've never really understood the hype around Ciate nail polishes as personally they've never worked that well, or been that pigmented. It took a good few coats for me to achieve a good colour, and even then it didn't seem too great to me. Plus I'm not really that big a fan of the shade (maybe baby) as it's a little too dark for me, and isn't really a great spring colour either. On the plus side, this is a big bottle so you can definitely get quite a few uses out of it before it's empty but considering how easily my nails have chipped after using it, I'm not too impressed! Sorry Ciate.

PERCY & REED LONDON BIG, BOLD & BEAUTIFUL DRY INSTANT VOLUMISING SPRAY (£14.00)

WHAT: THE NEXT GENERATION DRY SHAMPOO, THIS SPRAY LIFTS AND SWELLS HAIR FOR BEAUTIFUL VOLUME
HOW: SPRAY IN TO DRY HAIR, HOLDING ABOUT 10CM AWAY. WORK THE PRODUCT INTO HAIR WITH FINGERS

As someone who recently jumped on the Batiste dry shampoo wagon, I was intrigued to try a slightly higher end version to see if it was actually better. This product as you might be able to guess didn't fit in the box, so actually came outside of it. Also I'm pretty sure it must be full size, which is pretty impressive considering it's one of six items in the box, and it costs £14.00. First impressions after using it a couple of times is that I prefer it to Batiste, simply because it has a more subtle fragrance and just gives that extra bit of added volume. But that's not exactly surprising considering how much more expensive it is!

The final verdict? I have to say I did really like this box (the nail polish was the only real disappointment), and I feel like it is good value for money considering the size and quality of the products. I also love that I finally got to try out Liz Earle's hot cloth cleanser because I have heard so much about it! That's the thing I like about Birchbox, is that it takes me out of my comfort zone and makes me try new products even if sometimes it can be very hit and miss.

You can buy their limited edition Tatler Birchbox (£25.00) here. Note that when you buy the box all the products will be the same as in this review except that the Ciate nail polish will either be Maybe Baby (the one I got) or Red Hot Chilli.

Thank you for reading lovelies! What do you think of this week's box? Would you be tempted to buy it?

    1. Ah, that's interesting. I've tried a dark shade of theirs as well as this one and it was definitely a disappointment. Would be intrigued to maybe try a lighter one to see if they're better.
