Lifestyle | The Truth Behind My Instagram Photos

Hello Lovelies! Ok I know this title sounds super dramatic, but this post is just a little bit of fun looking at the reality of my Instagram posts. Something you realise as a blogger is that there is a lot of fakery behind Instagram, and not even necessarily in a bad way. It's more meticulously planned themes, photos and selfies that took 100 takes. To be honest, I'm sure a lot of people don't realise that too so that's why I'm doing this post because you know my life is really not quite as pretty as my Instagram feed... Also p.s I saw this first on Grace's blog so all credit to her for the idea (and do go read her post!).

Well it's probably a bit obvious but this is not a photo of when I got up that day. For one thing I'm wearing foundation to cover up my acne, and I'm also holding a Starbucks (which I had to go out to get), and this is actually my sister's bed too. Actually this photo was a massive big deal to me, basically a big challenge I'd set myself so I could get a cute shot of these pjs. I'm horrendously camera shy, and hate taking photos when I can't see exactly what my face looks like. The first 40 pictures I looked like I was hating life, and this was the final one where I finally looked into the camera and smiled. Posting this made me feel horrible and teary, and then eventually I felt kind of proud. I'm sure girls who are camera shy will get me.

This will go down as one of my favourite Instagram shots ever, but taking it was a nightmare. Pro tip when taking a photo of flowers, do it before they've been in a vase. There was water dripping everywhere, and I wanted to put those daffodils down straight away.

This is one of those 'casual' just happened to be passing by shots, but really I'd seen this on someone else's Instagram and knew I needed a picture. Honestly it's a little embarrassing that I went all the way into London just to get this shot, and even more when you realise I had to spend 10 minutes watching a woman having her photo taken outside it before I could get a shot. Do I regret it? No because it's pretty.

Probably wouldn't be an Instagram post without talking flatlays. Honestly when I took this shot I was super stressed out. This was a 'oh god I have nothing for the insta flatlay'. I chucked a whole lot of blue items down onto my fake marble background, and then kept on adding random products till the photo felt right. Shout out to my Oliver Bonas trinket tray for being cute. Possibly one of the best pieces of advice I've heard about flatlays is to make sure the products are equally spaced out. Didn't quite achieve that here but hey I tried.

Anyway that's it for today! I hope you enjoyed having a little insight into how I take my photos and what's really going on behind the scenes. Instagram is a social media that makes everything look effortless, but trust me it's not at all. A lot of hard work goes into curating a feed, and a lot of time too (but I just love it). Have a great weekend lovelies!

  3. Aww I hope taking photos get easier for you! I'm extremely impatient so I can never do flatlays and plus I hate looking for props and making it all pretty. I used to really dislike pictures of me because I definitely have serious RBH but I have now learnt to embrace it XD ps, we all travel to get that perfect shot don't we? hehehe

    1. If you go on instagram online (on a computer), there's an embed feature. Just click on the dot dot dot and it comes up! x
