Lifestyle | Confession, I'm The Queen Of Essay All Nighters

Hello Lovelies! My life at the moment is consumed by essays. Luckily I don't have a dissertation (yes!), but to make up for the word count I have a hell of a lot of essays left to do. About five essays that add up to a grand total of 15,000 words to be exact. Luckily I've finished one of those, but the deadline for all of them is next week (uh oh!).

I have been in this situation so many times which is funny because EVERY single time I do an essay last minute I regret it, but I've never managed to kill the habit. The worst part is that I always do reading in advance, have it all ready, know exactly what to say but for the life of me you have to drag me kicking and screaming to write anything. It's the most annoying thing. Unless I have a deadline, I am just not motivated to write at all. It's a pretty darn vicious circle.

Maybe it's because I've never missed an essay deadline ever, not even at school, so I know last minute is fail proof. Maybe it's because I spend so much time thinking about it all I get too anxious to write, so just stare blankly at my computer not doing anything. Maybe it's because I procrastinate. Give me something to do, and I'll no doubt come up with a list of a 100 other things I should do instead. I'm a pro at productive procrastinating.

My point is if you're like me, you're not alone but you shouldn't feel guilty about it either. I have spent far too long feeling bad about the fact that I do essays last minute, but I always get them done - so is it really that bad? My advice if you're like me is to set fake deadlines so you get things done earlier if you're dealing with multiple deadlines. I set a fake deadline of today for one of my essays, with the reward being that I get to go to a National Trust property and it really worked - that essay is actually done in advance, thank goodness! If that doesn't work, you can also try setting up a deadline with a friend, where they'll read your essay early and give you some feedback. Trust me, it is worth a try!

Anyway, that's it for now. Next week is my birthday (Tuesday) and also the week where I have five essays in, so if I'm a little quiet, you know why! Thanks for reading lovelies, have a great week!

  1. Essays, assignments and exams are the reasons why I don't miss being a student. It's way more stressful than working. LOL!
