Food | Coffee and Cake At Timberyard Soho

Hello Lovelies! If you follow me on Instagram (@VVNightingale), then you would have heard me absolutely rave about Timberyard, which has become one of my new favourite coffee haunts. So it probably doesn't come as a surprise that I decided to blog about it too, because hey that's how much I loved the place. I went last week for a spontaneous visit with my friend Zee (my partner in foodie crime, who you might remember from my visit to Bill's), because I'd heard so many good things about it, especially from my blogging pal Fran.

When you enter Timberyard, you're immediately met with this uber cool, laid back atmosphere. Half the people were glued to their laptops, whilst the other half chilled on sofas and armchairs around the cafe. Apparently it's usually packed, and ridiculously hard to get a seat in, but we were there at about 6'oclock so there were plenty of seats spare - and yes evening coffee is apparently a thing... After choosing our coffees, (Zee went for a Matcha Latte and I went for a standard Latte), we were met with the rather daunting challenge of choosing what cake we wanted. Some of us fared better than others, and when I say some of us, I mean me because I'd made my decision within seconds whilst Zee bless her, found herself torn between an apple tart and an Oreo brownie for what seemed like a century. Seriously this is how tempting all the cakes were... Eventually though, Zee settled for a brownie, and I picked out my Carrot Cake Pie and we both went to sit down on a sofa.

Our coffee and cake was brought over to us on the most hipster wooden board I'd ever seen, and the waiter offered us our own complimentary water jug which really added to the experience. There's actually quite a few complimentary sides like honey and I think even marmite, which really adds to the warm and friendly feel of Timberyard. Of course the first thing to be done was Instagram and Blog photos. Believe it or not, I had to take all these photos on my friend's phone because my Iphone is suffering yet another space crisis - that's real friendship for you!

After an adequate amount of photos were taken, we dove straight into trying our cakes. My Carrot Cake was absolutely gorgeous, and I actually can't wait to go back just to have another piece (I'm a tad carrot cake obsessed). Zee's brownie on the other hand was super tasty, but a bit too rich, so I ended up eating the other half of hers as she couldn't manage it. The icing on hers was gorgeous though, and probably the best part. One thing to note about Timberyard's cakes though is that they are on the expensive side, with most about £3.90, so you're definitely paying more than the average cafe. Whilst eating our cakes we also noticed that a table near us had a bowl of Joe and Seph's popcorn, and were a bit envious as we didn't even realise you could order it but you can!

Once we'd demolished our cakes, it was time to try our lattes, and wow they were gorgeous, like seriously that latte art! I was really blown away by my latte as it had the most gorgeous taste. Not too bitter, not too overpowering but really flavoursome at the same time. Plus it was at the perfect temperature too, not too hot and not too cold, just right (God I sound like Goldilocks...). Zee on the other hand was rather intrigued by her latte and said literally 'it has an aftertaste of seaweed.' And honestly she was right, it really did! But it was a really good Matcha latte, just not one to go for if you prefer a sweet Matcha latte as it has a much more 'natural' Matcha taste.

All in all I have to say I really enjoyed Timberyard, and it's a nice change from the usual antisocial coffee experience I've become accustomed too. Plus who doesn't love tasty cake and amazing latte art?

Thank you for reading lovelies! If you're looking to give Timberyard a visit, they have three branches: Soho, Seven Dials (Covent Garden) and Old Street.

  1. That cake looks incredible! I was in London last week and was debating going to Timberyard but ended up somewhere else, now I really wish we'd gone there. Definitely a good enough reason to go back soon!

  6. Dammit, Vicky! Now I want a cup of coffee and a slice of cake! LOL! Seriously though, that does look like a great place to hangout and the cakes are so delicious. And that is coming from me who doesn't like desserts in general.
