Beauty | Bourjois Festive Reds

Hello Lovelies! It seems like ages since I've done a beauty post, but I recently picked up some lovely bits from Bourjois. I had to re-buy my foundation  (Healthy Mix) and luckily they have a deal on at the moment where if you spend over £15.00 on Boots you get an amazing free gift so I managed to pick up quite a few things, and three of them just happened to be red which is so perfect for Christmas. Also on a totally unrelated note, I am for once using props which is very unusual for me. I would say no candy canes were hurt in the making of this post, but that would be a total lie as I ended up eating one, whoops...

As you can tell from the swatches whilst these are both red, they are actually very different shades. The Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Hot Pepper (£8.99) is a shade that reminds me a lot of ketchup, I know glamorous right? But seriously, it has a lovely reddish/orangey tone which is very flattering. What I'm not so sure about is how it looks as it has a very matte finish. It starts of liquid-y like a lip gloss, then drys on your lip to have a matte velvety look. This would be great if my lips weren't so dry in the first place, but I think if you use a lip balm or lip scrub first you won't have any issues with this. As far as staying power goes, it's also pretty good. I managed to eat all of my dinner and it still remained on my lips. It just didn't survive a drink, but what lip products really do? I'm not sure I would go out of my way to buy it though, but I'm more than happy it came in the gift set!

The other lip product I got was one I picked out. It's one of their Lip Crayons and I absolutely love it. Although to be fair I just love lip crayons in general, they are one of the best makeup ideas ever! This one is the Colour Boost Lip Crayon in Red Island (£7.99) and I am in love with it. The shade has a lovely pink undertone and it has an amazing staying power. I can definitely vouch for how good these are as I used their one in Plum Russian to absolute death. They just have a great staying power and leave your lips so lovely and moisturised!

One of the other things in the gift set was this So Laque Ultra Shine red nail polish in Rouge Escarpin 24 (£5.99). I don't know why but although I love Bourjois I've always been put off by their nail polishes, probably because the packaging looks surprisingly cheap to me. Maybe that's just me? One of the things that is a little annoying about this nail polish is the applicator. It's smaller than most, which makes it easy to apply to the whole of the nail but it tends to pick up too much of the product so you are left with a giant mess. That said if you're one of those super careful people when it comes to nails, this will not phase you - but I am far from talented at nail painting, and that doesn't help! But once you've mastered applying it, it has a lovely shiny finish and doesn't appear to chip easily. It's definitely not the best nail polish I've ever used or the worst, I'm just still firmly Team Rimmel when it comes to nail polish!

Thanks for reading lovelies! Have an amazing Friday and make sure you enter my giveaway (only a couple of days left!!).

  2. I love this time of year for the cosmetic freebies, it's a great chance to get a couple of extra bits to try out and maybe even find a new favorite. I'm so bad at painting my nails I can't remember the last time I tried, a bit of practice would probably help. =^-^=

  3. Be still my heart...Hot Pepper and Red Island are stunning, Vicky! I'm a little jealous because Bourjois is so freaking expensive here in Canada. :-(
