March 'Do Try This At Home' Birchbox Review

Hey Lovelies! This month Birchbox partnered up with Habitat, for their 'Do Try This At Home' box.* Out of all the Birchboxes I've been sent this is definitely my favourite design, as it's so happy and fun, perfect for ushering in warmer weather. This month's highlight is that Birchboxers are allowed to choose which Benefit Mascara sample they want - and I got Roller Lash. All in all, I love the way this box looks, and the fact that it's partnered with Habitat (perfect for a Homeware geek like me), but let's get down to what's inside!

BENEFIT ROLLER LASH (FULL SIZE £17.50)

WHAT: A JET BLACK, LASH PERFECTING FORMULA FROM THE MASTERS OF LASHES THEMSELVES
HOW: GENTLY WIGGLE THE BRUSH FROM THE BASE OF THE LASHES TO THE ENDS

I'm sure we've all heard so much about Benefit's Roller Lash already, but I really think it's a great mascara. I've already tried a sample from Elle magazine, and loved how pretty and curled it makes your lashes. Besides, having another sample means I can use this for a while longer before considering investing in this mascara!

PHILIP KINGSLEY SMOOTH CREAM (FULL SIZE - £18.00)

WHAT: TAME FRIZZ AND FLYAWAYS WITH THIS SMOOTHING SHINE-BOOSTING LOTION
HOW: APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT TO MID-LENGTHS AND ENDS OF HAIR, BEFORE OR AFTER STYLING

I've already tried a lot of Philip Kingsley samples, and had good results but this one really hated my hair. It actually didn't tame my frizz but made my hair frizzier? I'm not really sure how that can happen but it did. It didn't really make my hair look any better either!

CATHERINE MELANDRINO STYLE DE PARIS (FULL SIZE £50.00)

WHAT: A PLAYFUL YET SOPHISTICATED FRAGRANCE WITH CITRUS TOP NOTES AND A FRUITY TWIST
HOW: SPRITZ ONTO WRISTS, BEHIND EARS, AND ONTO OTHER PULSE POINTS

Perfume samples in Birchboxes tend to be a little controversial, simply because you can usually easily get them for free anyway. However, it does have to be said this is a really gorgeous scent! Definitely will have to keep my eyes out for this perfume in the future - as it's sweet and sophisticated at the same time.

TANORGANIC SELF TANNING OIL (FULL SIZE £24.99)

WHAT: MOISTURISE THE SKIN WHILE CREATING A NATURAL-LOOKING WITH THE WORLD'S FIRST TANNING OIL
HOW: MASSAGE EVENLY INTO CLEAN SKIN. DON'T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER APPLICATION!

I am not a fake tan fan at all so this was definitely a miss product for me - and will probably just give it to my sister. However, for those who do tan, this is definitely a great time to get a sample, especially as warm weather is coming. It has a strong orange scent, so hopefully it makes you smell orange, not look orange!

JANJIRA POMEGRANATE & ACAI FACIAL SCRUB (FULL SIZE £24.00)

WHAT: FRUIT EXTRACTS AND VITAMIN E GENTLY CLEANSE AND BRIGHTEN THE COMPLEXION
HOW: MASSAGE INTO DAMP SKIN AND RINSE AWAY USING WARM WATER

This product was really the highlight of the box. As some of you might know, I love facial scrubs and this one smells absolutely gorgeous and leaves your skin feeling so smooth. I've used this once and will have one more use left luckily, but just wish that the full size product was cheaper because it really is amazing but £24.00...

BIRCHBOX & HABITAT NOTEBOOK

WHAT: A PETITE BUT PERFECTLY FORMED JOTTER TO PEN ALL OF YOUR IDEAS AND INSPIRATION IDEAS INSIDE
HOW: FILL WITH YOUR BEAUTY WISHLIST, DIY PROJECTS, OR HOMELY INSPIRATION - WHATEVER YOU FANCY!

The notebook is pretty small, but I always say you can never have too many notebooks, so I'm definitely not complaining! I'll probably keep this in my uni bag or handbag to jot down ideas when I'm inspired.

A PERFECT HERITAGE BY PENNY VINCENZI (£7.99 - FULL BOOK)

WHAT: AN EPIC TALE OF AMBITION, EGO AND PASSION WITH THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY AS ITS BACKDROP
HOW: SWITCH OFF YOUR MOBILE AND TAKE A MOMENT TO CURL UP WITH THIS EXTRACT!

I briefly had a look at this, but haven't actually read it yet. It's a bit weird having an extract from a book as a lifestyle extra but I am looking forward to giving this a read whilst drinking a cup of tea.

Thank you for reading lovelies! Are you subscribed to Birchbox - or would you consider signing up to Birchbox? Let me know in the comment section below!

  1. Birchbox is now available in Canada too but the reviews has been 'glowing'. I do hope it'll improve soon, would love to try it out. This looks like a decent box but shame about the fake tanner, I don't use any either and it would have been such a waste. I could give it to my husband but he would probably give me the evil side eye...

    1. Yeah it was a good box, the fake tan really isn't for me though haha! I think it's good if you like trying out brands but not if you want products that will last as usually you can only get 1-2 uses if they're not a makeup product. Although last month I did get two makeup products. The content this week wasn't the best, but I did love the packaging and the Benefit sample!

    1. Yeah I get annoyed when they put them in - if anything it should be an extra rather than a main product!

  7. I've always wanted to try out one of these boxes. They seem like the variety of products is good! I always wanted to let you know, I nominated you for a Sisterhood of the World award.

  8. I always find book extracts so random! Especially as they are usually free, so it is a pain that they throw them in there. Does look like a good box for me for the rest though - do quite like that benefit mascara! x

    1. Yeah I don't like it when they put things that you could get free in there, but technically there's usually only six items - so I guess it's a bonus? But still I get what you mean!
